Football Manager Live

Football Manager Live (FML) is a Massively Multiplayer Online game from Sports Interactive, the creators of the hugely popular Football Manager series. It is a combination of Fantasy Football, Auction sites, Social Networking and the Football Manager concept all rolled into one.

Football Manager Live differs significantly from previous Football Manager titles, whilst keeping the same match engine and many of their fundamental concepts.

Users are assigned to a "game world" of up to 1000 players and create their club and fill their squad with real players, similar to fantasy football. Whilst Football Manager Live utilises a very similar database to that of Football Manager 2009, like it's offline counterpart, ageing players retire and younger players generated in their place within each gameworld, creating an increasingly fictional environment as seasons progress. Skins

A 'skin' changes the layout & general look & feel of your Football Manager game. Skins can change the colour and layout of things like the buttons, menus, panels and text.

Changing the layout of a skin is one of the most challenging things to do with Football Manager. It involves editing lots of files, mostly those in the panels or graphics folders in the skin folder.

Whilst graphics on Sports Interactive are not glamourous like FIFA Manager, they make the game very clear and supply all the information needed. To make this happen, Sports Interactive have a Graphics Team. One staff member responsible for the graphical side of Football Manager is Craig Hunter, commonly known as 'Ter' on the SI Forums, but there are also other people who make Football Manager look how it does.

The skins for Football Manager changed dramatically from Football Manager 2007 to Football Manager 2008. FM07 used a skin that remains very popular with Football Manager players, and was called 'Flexion'. This has been recreated by unofficial skinners, but many would prefer for the Flex skin to make an comeback in the boxed game. Flex was based around green and grey colouring as seen here. Football Manager 2008 favoured a much cleaner look (more...)

Data Editor

The database editor is a program that comes with the game, which allows you to make various changes to the game database.

These uses include:

  • Making your own club/players.
  • Editing a club's finances/facilities.
  • Changing the leagues that teams play in.

You can change most things to do with the game, but you can not change league rules. You can't change the amount of teams allowed in a league, either.

These changes will only take effect if you start a new game, loading the edited database that you saved beforehand. To make in-game changes, you need an in-game editor such as FMRTE (more...)

Barclays Premier League

The highest tier of English Football is officially called the Barclays Premier League, but is often shortened to The Premier League, the EPL or the Premiership.

In Football Manager it is called the English Premier Division, due to Sports Interactive not having licenses to the official name.

While 42 clubs have competed in the Premier League since its inception in 1992, only four have ever won it - Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers, Arsenal and Chelsea.

The Premier League table is ordered primarily on the amount of points gained during the season. After the points are tallied, the goal difference is taken into account. Goal difference is worked out by finding the difference between the amount of goals conceded from the amount of goals scored. (more...)

FM-Britain

FM-Britain is a Football Manager fansite, containing strategy guides and community forums for a wide audience, including a Lower League management section.

This site is the home of some of Football Manager's tactical boffs, including wwfan and Millie who together wrote 'Tactical Theorems and Frameworks', the tactics help document which was personally recommended by Football Manager founder Paul Collyer.

There are a lot of staff members on FM-Britain. Gaz, JP, wwfan, Keith, The next Diaby, JordanC, Millie, Leroy1883, fids and jcb. All of these staff members have contributed to making FM-Britain the success it has been, especially Gaz who is the founder, owner and bill payer of FM-Britain. (more...)

Aston Villa

Aston Villa Football Club is an English professional football club based in Aston, Birmingham, who currently play in the Premier League. The club was founded in 1874 and have played at their current home ground, Villa Park, since 1897. Aston Villa were founding members of The Football League in 1888 and the Premier League in 1992. The club was floated by the previous owner and chairman Doug Ellis, but in 2006 full control of the club was acquired by Randy Lerner.

They are one of the oldest and most successful football clubs in England, having won the First Division Championship seven times and the FA Cup seven times. Villa also won the 1981-82 European Cup, one of only four English clubs to win what is now the UEFA Champions League. Aston Villa is the fourth most successful club in English football history, having won 20 major honours, although many of these were won before the Second World War and the most recent was in 1996. Hugo Lloris

Hugo Lloris (born 26 December 1986 in Nice) is a French football goalkeeper. He currently plays for Olympique Lyonnais in Ligue 1. Lloris is without doubt the best goalkeeper Lyon has in their squad; he’s extremely solid and reliable and will only continue to improve in FM09 as the season’s progress. He is simply indispensable and I would never recommend selling him.

Lloris is extremely costly to prize away from Lyon, you could well pay more than £30Million to get your hands on him, however after a few seasons he is one of the best goalkeepers around.

Mentality wise you should keep it low but still within your tactical structure. Creative freedom isn’t needed, so have this as low as possible. It is probably worth changing his distribution and setting him to throw the ball out or let one of the full backs take the ball. As his kicking game isn’t the best. (more...)
